Events and Exhibitions

This section provides information on cultural events and highlights in Mettlach and the surrounding area.

Chamber Music Days

The Mettlach Chamber Music Days have been a regular fixture in the Old Abbey refectory since 1986. Musical highlights of the festival include great cycles, such as Beethoven's complete chamber music work, played over several years, and the entire cycle of Schostakovich's string quartet. A mixture of long-established, internationally successful musicians and ensembles at the very start of their careers has always been part of the festival's special charm. A car-free fun day out for the family, cycling or hiking along the River Saar – with zero emissions. Once a year, the Saar valley is taken over by cyclists, skaters, walkers and hikers. The Saar valley is easily accessible by train or bus. The towns along the route organise a diverse programme of activities in their section of the route on the day, including games, sport, fun and, of course, eating and drinking. Saar Pedal is an advertisement for the region, as well as encouraging us to leave the car at home more often and get on our bikes for short journeys or leisure. Saarschleifen Bike Marathon

The Saarschleifen Bike Marathon demonstrates the great popularity of the Saar Loop region among mountain biking enthusiasts. Each year, up to 1,200 riders from all over Europe line up at the start in Orscholz. For the latest dates and information, visit:
