The group's headquarters is the Old Abbey in Mettlach in the Saarland region of Germany.
Jean François Boch, the third generation of the Boch family, purchased the Benedictine abbey in 1809. The company now operates production sites in eight European countries, as well as Mexico and Thailand. Villeroy & Boch employs around 7,500 people all over the world. It has been a joint-stock company (Aktiengesellschaft) since 1987 and was listed on the stock exchange in 1990.
